1984 Is a good year

I found it absolutely fascinating what they did in this book. They made it so the people where always watched and could never hide anything this was a very great way to keep people under control. As they put it once in "The Prince" a dictator has to have the people constantly fear their dictator so that the people well always follow his or her commands without question. Winston was always scared he felt frightened that he may betray emotions. which could be considered a bad act. Even when people have nothing to hide they are scared that they might thought of as a traitor to the country.
Another great tactic the dictator used was to change history constantly to better suite the country. In making it better for individuals to believe the best in there dictator. One prime example of this is one day the lowered the chocolate rations down to 200 grams. But they marked it down as in increase of rations of up to 200 grams. The sad part is they believe it and they have to believe it or else they risk being charged with thought crime. They create this constant circle of changing history in order to suite the will of the dictatorship, well at the same time enforcing the change in history by constant watch and enforcement to prevent anyform of even thought of rebellion.

  1. I love how you connected this to Machiavelli's "The Prince." Such a great book. Also, nice use of textual evidence with the chocolate rations.
