Gotta Love fear

Fear is a constant factor in human life; It controls our actions and even our thoughts. Once a dictator is able to make people fear him he is able to control his people and prevent any form of rebellion.  This is shown in ‘Animal Farm’ with how the dogs become a big part in the book. In section two the Napoleon begins to create a police force with the training of the dogs he took and raised from pups.  The first step he took was to kill all the animals who opposed him or even thought of opposing him in the first place. By doing this  it creates fear in the masses; which in turn creates confusion. With this confusion the animals can then look to their leader Napoleon for guidance. ‘1984’  Also uses fear constantly in order to prevent any thoughts of rebellion. Through out the whole book the main character Winston constantly refers to the thought police  and how if people even looks suspicious the thought police well catch them and eventually punish them. This fear of being caught for even a wrong expression or thought constantly haunts ever one.  By having a constant fear of even thinking of rebelling limits any  rebellions dramatically. To back up this fear they have cameras every where constantly watching. In doing this no one ever feels safe to show anything but love for their government.

How i love government control

I was fascinated when i started reading about how they control the society in 1984. I thought it was very interesting in how they are at constant war in order to reduce the excess of resources. By reducing this excess of resources they are able to keep the people impoverished. Being impoverished makes the people need a totalitarian government in order to run there society. They also create this constant war so they have a place to channel all of their anger so that they don't channel their anger at the government or any individuals in the government. It is my belief they also created the brotherhood for two reasons. One to once again channel their anger at someone besides the government and two it is a way  for the government to be in control of the rebellion. By being in control of the rebellion they can weed out people slowly and prevent it from getting out of control.

A Beautiful Lie 30 seconds to mars

This first talks about lying awake in bed wondering if you want to be different. This could be connected to 1984 with Winston having to act like every one else in society even though he doesn't really fit into this society at all. So he wants to be different but he can't or else he could be killed for not fitting into the society. Then it says try to let go of the truth. In 1984 when Winston is in prison he is tortured until he lets go of what he thinks is the truth and only accepts what the part says as true. Its a beautiful lie. This line could refer to in 1984 where the government lies to every one in order to make a better society. and it is a beautiful lie because no one can prove them wrong. Its time to forget about the past. In this line Winston is forced to forget about his past memories when he is being tortured by O'Brien. and believe his past is a lie or continue to be tortured. Hide behind an empty face. This line could refer  to near the beginning where Winston had to constantly hide behind an empty face in order to survive his life.

Pink Floyd Sheep

Pink Floyd crested a song called Sheep this song in general refers to how sheep are not that smart and don't notice the danger of change They say this in the statement only dimly aware of a certain unease. This refers to0 how the pigs in animal farm where not aware in any way at all of the changes that where occurring on the farm with  the pigs taking more and more control of the farm as a whole. Then it refer to the sheep as meek and obedient you follow the leader. This shows how sheep follow the leader without thinking at all of the events and how it will affect them. In animal Farm the sheep follow their leader without a second thought they gave all of their work for the betterment of the dictatorship. In the song they say with bright knifes he releases my soul referring to how there owners kill them when they are done using them. In Animal farm the pigs killed some of the sheep because they admitted to being traitors. This shows how this song could refer to the sheep getting killed by their masters the pigs.

David Bowie 1984

For some reason, David Bowie's song 1984 made me automatically think of this book i am reading which quiescently is also called 1984. I began to listen to the song and it kinda reminded even more of this book i am reading called 1984. One line says they well split your skull open and fill it with hot air. meaning kinda of fill it with nonsense or information that is useless to ones self. This represents how in 1984 they try to make the genral population ignorant of whats happening in the world and have them try to cover up information or change it so that they well follow the government blindly. We played out an all night movies role, meaning they just played their parts for the greater good, without looking at it as a whole. In 1984 they just played small parts for the greater country of oceania. without any of them knowing of what is really going on as a whole country. I'm looking for the treason that I knew in '65, when it says this its referring to the past when thing where different and they had more freedom. In the book Winston refers to the past allot and how things have changed and he has allot less freedom then use to have. And he is wishing for that freedom he use to have.

War pigs

This song refers to how politicians poison are brain washed mind. This both refers to the 1984 and Animal farm which talk about the pigs and the party brain washing the masses into thinking that they are the best for society and that they created all of their comforts and without them there would be nothing. It also refers to how how they keep on starting wars just for fun. In 1984 they our in a constant war. And their seems to be no particular reason for this war except to distract the masses from the reality of whats going on internally. In the field the bodies are burning this could refer to the poles who get missiles dropped on them almost daily. And  not any members of the party get killed.

Also they talk about the fight with mankind and death to mankind. This could refer to animal farm where they litteraly say death to mankind. and are all about the animals instead of humans.

Album Big Brother

The great and merciful Big Brother is always looking out for the interest of our society. He is watching to make sure that no one brings us down in any way at all. He has helped organize are society so that we can all serve the common good and work to bring peice to this world. We follow the laws of strenth through ignorance. By doing this we do not have to pay attention to the little things and focus purely on what is the greater good for our society in general.  We also have to remeber the importance of knowing that war is peice. By being at constant war we create internal peice. It unites us against a common enemy. We have to understand that when we follow the government and be slaves to the government we truelly become free. To follow the government we become free through the government.

1984 more lovely tactics

Another great tactic that the dictatorship uses is the creation of an outside enemy. By creating an outside enemy the people have someone to be angry about to yell down to blame for any hardships. This makes it so the people turn more away from the issues at hand in their own country and look constantly at events that are happening in other countries. By having the individuals be blinded to these events they become easier to manipulate by the dictatorship
One important thing the do is they constantly brainwash peoples children to spy on their parents. this creates further distrust and makes it so there is no bond between the family to unite them against anyone especially the government. Also it is a great way to weed out any possible parents who are disloyal to the party. And teaches the youth to be loyal to the party from a very young age.
The party constantly works on changing the dictionary to shorten and get rid of numerous words and concepts. The ultimate goal is to change peoples minds and perceptions of the world. So that thoughts of freedom are impossible because the concept of freedom would no longer exist. It shrinks the mind so that humans think less and less and become more of machines every day. They just do task after task to achieve the betterment of society. By changing  dictionary in reducing the words you become more blinded and think less and less outside of what the party wants you to think.

1984 Is a good year

I found it absolutely fascinating what they did in this book. They made it so the people where always watched and could never hide anything this was a very great way to keep people under control. As they put it once in "The Prince" a dictator has to have the people constantly fear their dictator so that the people well always follow his or her commands without question. Winston was always scared he felt frightened that he may betray emotions. which could be considered a bad act. Even when people have nothing to hide they are scared that they might thought of as a traitor to the country.
Another great tactic the dictator used was to change history constantly to better suite the country. In making it better for individuals to believe the best in there dictator. One prime example of this is one day the lowered the chocolate rations down to 200 grams. But they marked it down as in increase of rations of up to 200 grams. The sad part is they believe it and they have to believe it or else they risk being charged with thought crime. They create this constant circle of changing history in order to suite the will of the dictatorship, well at the same time enforcing the change in history by constant watch and enforcement to prevent anyform of even thought of rebellion.

Napoleon

Napoleon, as i mentioned in the previous post represents a dictator. He starts out working with another dictator. They work together to get the farm up and running but when things where in place. Napoleon started to figure out a way to take out Snowball ( AKA the other dictator) . Eventually he chased out the other dictator. By means of the dogs ( which represent the police force/ Military) . Then after this he began to blame everything that went wrong on Snowball. This was a great tactic because he then could change steal or destroy things as he wished and could blame it on someone else. This also united all of the animals against one common enemy which further distracted them from the corruption of their own government.
Napoleon was very good at distracting and pointing the fingers at others for blame. But also he was very good explaining his way out of things. He always gave a good reason why a freedom should be taken away. and managed to figure out how to take them away bit by bit so that ppl did not realize there freedoms where being taken away. Also he changed history so that it shined better on him as a person.
He raised his kids to slowly separate themselves from the other animals so they would be the supeirer animals teaching them the importance of not associating with them.

Animals

As I looked at the different definitions of different animals in Newdictionery.com I realized how they symbolic for different sections of society. Boxer symbolized the working class, the sheep the masses, Benjamin the old, squealer the media, and napoleon the dictator.
I think its important to note each role of these characters. Let me begin with Boxer. He shows how the government worked him to his very last ounce of strength.  and used him every bit they could. That the workers where always inspired to continue working no matter what happened. This showed that they had complete faith in their dictator (Napoleon). and that their dictator shall work them tell they can't work anymore then kill them for they are weighing down the society and are of no real use to society.
The sheep showed how the masses where stupid and followed the dictator blindly without much thought or care at all.
Benjamin showed how the old knew exactly what was going on but didn't put the effort into stopping it because they didn't their voice would be heard.
Squeeler reveals the medias power of manipulating events that are going on. and blind the masses to the corruption of the dictator

First insight into Government through the eyes of Animal Farm

A government is created to help people and control the chaos that can occur during anarchy. In Animal farm it begins with a dictatorship, with the farmer having complete say and the animals having no say or power what so ever. After this they began to create a new government where every one is equal.
This made all of the animals happy. It created a time where animals felt proud of who they where. But as the ones in power realized they could take advantage of the rest of the animals ,due to being much more intelligent, they started to make their own personal lives better. This began by getting the milk and apples and changed to getting their own place to sleep. This is the beginning of government being given space to become corrupt.
A teacher Once told me that freedom isn't taken away in one night but slowly taken bit by bit. The pigs first act of taking away their freedom should of been striked down by the people. As soon as people let go and stop caring about what the government does we have to worry. For with all power comes corruption and without regulation by the people the corruption shall fester and grow.
